Tandem Paragliding

Tandem flights suitable for everyone, to discover a completely new Tuscany.

Paragliding with a qualified instructor is a unique, unforgettable outdoor experience – and has become a highly popular activity in the last few years.

What is Tandem Paragliding?

A paraglider is a ‘wing’ which uses rising air currents to fly in complete safety, taking off from a specific sloped area.

Anyone can participate in a two-person (tandem) flight with an instructor or qualified pilot, who manages the whole experience from start to finish. This consists of a pre-flight briefing, take-off, the flight itself and landing in a dedicated area. Take-off and landing require a small level of collaboration from the passenger, which are simple tasks that can be carried out by anyone. The duration of the flight depends on the weather conditions, but is usually around 25 minutes.

The views during the (completely silent) flight are incredible. Sometimes you can fly alongside birds of prey on thermal currents!

Who can try Tandem Paragliding?

Virtually everyone – passengers on tandem flights must be 12 years old or over. Vertigo is not a problem (being an off-the-ground activity) and there aren’t any particular requirements. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy bird’s eye views of spectacular scenery.

Your instructor will manage all the phases of the flight for your comfort and safety. We can also organise for an in-flight video (which can be managed while seated in flight).

FLIGHT LOCATIONS

Flyten operates in the hills around Lucca, in the Lima Valley, Pedemontana, and in the Apuan Alps and Apennine mountains

Tuscany offers wonderful and varied scenery for paragliding flights. Starting off from the hills in the Lucca area, dotted with fabulous villas, flights take off from 1,000 metres above sea level with a view of the ocean and the Tuscan Archipelago. Flights in the Lima Valley and Apennines enjoy views of the Apuan Alps and the Apennine National Park. A shuttle service is available to reach the take-off point.

On some days you can see Corsica and the very top of the Apennine mountains. In flight above Villa Reale and its luxuriant gardens, you can see forests stretching to the horizon with the soundtrack of the wind (and the pilot’s instructions).

You can paraglide all year round.

FLYTEN

The first school in Tuscany for outdoor flying activities

Flyten, based in Tuscany, is an organisation in the paragliding world and has been operating as a school since 1984.

Tandem flights are undertaken by instructor pilots from the Italian Aero Club, which also organise courses for obtaining VDS paragliding pilot licenses (Tuscany AeroClub flight school no.482, for paragliding, and no.483 for powered paragliding). The Club has thirty years’ experience in international competition and teaching.

Group flights are also available if planned in advance.

Flyten will organise everything – passengers can just enjoy the ride!

Powered by nature

Paragliding only uses natural propulsion. The silence is striking – you can just hear the wind as you watch the clouds pass.

With the Hike & Fly activity combination you can reach the mountain take-off point on foot, to then launch into the currents. A great way to feel the raw energy of nature.

Useful information

All the necessary equipment will be provided to enjoy the activity in complete safety.

Sports clothing appropriate for the season. A wind-proof jacket and trekking/anti-slip shoes are recommended.

Generally this activity is around 20/30 minutes long.

The instructor will provide all the necessary weather-related information, deciding the flight date, time and location in agreement with the passenger.
